Founded in 1962, Youth & Family Counseling (YFC) a non-profit counseling center that offers individual, couple and family counseling to children, adolescents, and adults from all walks of life out of our offices in Libertyville, and beginning July of 2022, Gurnee. YFC is known for its high standard of care and the accessibility of its services.

Board members form the governing body of YFC. They are committed to the long-term interests of YFC and meet regularly to oversee business operations, set policies, approve significant business decisions, evaluate the executive director, and fulfill fiduciary responsibilities.

The board member’s responsibilities include advising on strategic plans, participating in evaluations, and monitoring its financial affairs. You will also prepare for board and committee meetings, attend regularly, and actively participate.

First and foremost, an outstanding YFC board member will be passionately committed to the YFC mission. A successful YFC board member will also have professional leadership experience, strong diplomatic skills, and be someone who enjoys solving problems/meeting the challenges facing YFC in 2022 and beyond.

Specific Expectations of Board Members:

  • Full preparation and robust engagement in Board and committee meetings; attend special events as your schedule permits.
  • Make an annual philanthropic commitment to YFC that is personally meaningful.
  • Partner with leadership to develop an Individual Philanthropy Plan that outlines how the member will most effectively impact the philanthropic/stewardship efforts of YFC over the coming year. (Introductions…Networking…Connecting!)
  • Make thoughtful recommendations to the Governance Committee for prospective board member candidates.
